CEP Conducts First Training in South America

On Oct 9 and 10, Dr. Russ Sojourner led a foundational 11 Principles training in Bogota, Colombia, CEP’s first professional development activity in South America. In attendance were all of the English-speaking staff members from Nogales, including the head of the school,  principals, teachers, counselors, psychologist, and Dean of Curriculum, plus several parents. The training was a resounding success, and afterwards the Head of the School (and founder) Luisa Pizano, commented that the two-day training was the most productive and well received professional development activity that the school had ever been involved with, in 30 years. “We were all so excited  and felt so inspired by the two days .Everyone I have talked to only speaks of the wonderful workshop.”

Elementary principal Catalina Rodriguez concurred, ” [The training] was inspiring, enriching and very useful.”

Dr. Sojourner said, “This training effort serves as a successful example of CEP’s expanding vision and reach beyond just U.S. classrooms, and combined with our upcoming first ever International Summit at the Forum, will begin to pave the way for future international ventures, positively affecting young people all over the world.”

11 Principles Post-Forum Training

A highly energized group of educators met Sunday morning immediately following the Forum to discuss and cement the 11 Principles’ framework and to internalize the interactive process to develop character through the advancement of a positive culture back at home.   At least seven countries outside the US were represented as well as 18 states and the District of Columbia.

The all-day training was highly interactive, Participants explored their community’s own strengths and unique assets and looked at proactive tools for the use of common language, self-assessment, and the exploration of a variety of exemplary practices from recognized Schools of Character. The group determined that “those involved with young people need to think about HOW they do things—not just WHAT they do.”  Opportunities for voice and choice increases buy-in with  significant byproducts of academic achievement and more respectful and responsible citizens for communities everywhere.
