Developing this comprehensive plan actually began last year when faculty and staff members from every division of the PreK-12th grade school as well as community partners participated in a full day 11 Principles Leadership Training.
“Although participants arrived for the training with varying levels of enthusiasm and interest, CEP trainers Barbara Luther and Mary Lasris engaged and instructed the participants, and by the end of the day, everyone was enthusiastic about character education,” faculty member Meghan Blackmon said.
This training was the first thrust of our proactive effort to define and develop a school-wide character initiative with a focus on character integration throughout classrooms.
Following the training, Brookstone formed a core character education committee, and with the help of Headmaster Brian Kennerly, character education became a major thread in the Brookstone community.
To jump start the coming school year, renowned character educator, Dr. Hal Urban will speak, inspiring and energizing our faculty, parents, and student leaders about character education. We will continue our educational process in the coming year by attending the CEP Conference in October.
We are excited about continuing to develop character as a core value at Brookstone and are most grateful to CEP for all they have done to develop the buy-in and shared leadership. As a result of the Eleven Principles Training, Brookstone now has a comprehensive character plan for the coming year!
