What Virtues Do We Want Our Students to Acquire?

What virtues are most important for strong character?

“Ten Essential Virtues” by Prof. Tom Lickona, provides a comprehensive list of virtues from which to choose:

  • The ancient Greeks named four “Cardinal Virtues.” They considered wisdom to be the master virtue, the one that directs all the others.
  • The second Cardinal Virtue named by the Greeks is justice
  • The third Cardinal Virtue, a much-neglected virtue, is fortitude.
  • The fourth Cardinal Virtue named by the Greeks is self-control
