Character Education Partnership (CEP) is a national advocate and leader for the character education movement. Based in Washington, DC, we are a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian coalition of organizations and individuals committed to fostering effective character education in our nation's schools.
We are an umbrella organization for character education, serving as the leading resource for people and organizations that are integrating character education into their schools and communities.
CEP's membership includes the nation's leading education organizations, and its board of directors is made up of corporate leaders and experts in the field of character education.
What We Do
CEP focuses on defining and encouraging effective practices and approaches to quality character education and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas.
CEP conducts on-site professional development for school teachers and administrators; we hold an annual conference - the National Forum on Character Education; and we annually recognize 10 schools or districts as National Schools of Character (NSOC).
CEP professional development focuses on school-wide systemic change. We equip school teachers and leaders with the knowledge and skills to create safe, healthy, high-performing schools, while inspiring their students to reach their full potential as learners and as people.
Each year, the National Forum on Character Education connects teachers, school leaders, public servants, researchers and businesspeople to network and share best practices in character education. We inspire educators with renowned keynote speakers who share firsthand experiences to impart upon all of us the importance of doing well and doing good. We invite Forum participants to join leading character educators in interactive Hot Topics and breakout sessions where they learn about new practices in character education, social-emotional learning, civic engagement and service-learning. And we recognize the National Schools of Character at a luncheon in their honor.
The National Schools of Character (NSOC) is CEP's annual flagship program, recognizing 10 schools and districts each year for their exceptional work in character education and the inspiring example they set for other schools. They receive a grant to share their transformational models with other schools and districts. CEP helps the National Schools of Character share their success with others through www.character.org and through our annual publication, National Schools of Character: Award-Winning Practices.
