Keep it simple, and model what you teach -
Robert Gehringer, Principal

Students at Boys Town, part of the well-known residential treatment center west of Omaha, Nebraska, speak openly about the difference the school has made in their lives. “I’ll probably cry when I have to leave Boys Town, because they’ve changed my life forever,” reports one senior. Most of these at-risk teens have failed in three previous placements before coming to Boys Town. About half have substance abuse problems, prior arrests, and/or aggression problems. Forty-two percent have been abused or neglected. Boys Town provides these students with a safe place to learn pro-social behaviors as well as academics. Staff members break down social skills into specific behaviors and then teach these behaviors, offering constant feedback to students as well as frequent opportunities for reflection. Once students learn appropriate behaviors, they are shown that they can be trusted to display them.
