The 18th National Forum on Character Education included a number of firsts:
- A record 43 schools and 1 district were honored as National Schools of Character
- A record 260 Promising Practices winners were recognized, including entries from Mexico, Brazil, and Singapore.
- Soeren Palumbo and Danielle Liebl gave the first-ever student keynote as they spoke about the value of inclusive education
- First-ever Skype session connecting Hong Kong, Atlanta and San Francisco
- First time the Sanford McDonnell Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to an active school superintendent, Dr. Sheldon Berman.
