Focus on one or two values. Go slowly, one by one, and model what you believe.
--Betty White, Principal

Sacred Hearts, a Catholic all-girls school located a short trip from Hawaii’s Waikiki Beach, has a nearly century-long history of educating for character. Sacred Hearts students take pride in their beautiful, welcoming school, even voluntarily staying after school to clean classrooms. Similarly, older students who support younger students as part of the school’s work-study program often choose to work with the primary students on their own time. Through their service learning projects, students give over 60,000 hours of community service each year. So pervasive is the sense of responsibility among Sacred Hearts students, that it would not be unusual to witness students beginning class before a teacher even enters the room. Indeed, Sacred Hearts Academy’s character education initiative emphasizes the values that contribute to developing a young woman who makes a positive difference in the world in which she lives.
