Application Process
The National and State Schools of Character program is a free school improvement process which has offered the opportunity for self-assessment and expert feedback to U.S. schools and districts engaged in character education since 1998.

While still prestigious, the program is no longer competitive — ALL schools and districts that can demonstrate excellence in character education, as measured by CEP’s 11 Principles of Effective Character Education, will be named State and/or National Schools of Character.

The 2013 SSOC/NSOC application is an online process that was open August 1 – December 3, 2012. Applications must have been completed and submitted by December 3, 2012 in order to be reviewed and considered for possible recognition in 2013.

You do NOT have to be located in a participating state to apply! If you do not have a state sponsor, your application will be reviewed by CEP.
