It is our aim to share your best practices with other educators. This is one way we help you serve as a model. You can help us in the following ways:
LINK TO CEP WEBSITE
Provide a link to the CEP website (www.character.org) from your school or district website. This enables visitors to your site to find out more about the NSOC program and visit your school’s page on the CEP website as well as access other character education resources.
HELP BUILD YOUR NSOC PAGE – AND KEEP IT CURRENT!
We have already posted your 2012 NSOC page to the CEP website. Your page is intended to promote the best aspects of your character initiative and what makes your school special. The following items will appear on your webpage, and you may suggest others.
- Brief description of your school/district program (written by you during the application process)
- Contact information (please keep this current)
- Photos and captions (collected during the application process)
- A quote from your principal/superintendent (collected during the application process)
- Demographic information (collected during the application process)
- Testimonials from stakeholders (collected during the finalist process)
- Impact data on attendance, academics, behavior, and climate (collected during the finalist process)
- Link to at least one lesson plan (send to khood@character.org)
- Links to Promising Practices you may have won in the last 3 years
- OPTIONAL: Additional signature practices (handouts, videos, lessons, etc. – send to khood@character.org)
You may find your page here: http://www.character.org/schools-of-character/national-schools-of-character-overview/national-schools-of-character/winners/. Please review the content for accuracy and send changes or additions to khood@character.org.
Lesson plan and sample practice handouts as well as videos that you use in your Forum presentation during the Marketplace of Ideas may work well on your webpage. (Also see lesson plans from previous NSOC winners.) You may also want to include short videos of best practices in action, additional lesson plans, or other documents.
LESSON PLAN
CEP has created a searchable bank of lesson plans written by NSOC teachers. These are some of our most popular free resources for visitors to our site. We ask that you submit at least one lesson plan to be posted on your NSOC page and included in our bank of lessons. More are welcome.
By June 29, please send at least one character-related lesson plan and any documents relevant to your lesson plan to Katie Hood at khood@character.org. Use the Lesson Plan Template provided.
VIDEOS
You are encouraged to create short (1.5 – 3 minute) “how-to” videos that showcase your best practices and character programs in action so that others may learn from them. Contact Katie Hood at khood@character.org if you have videos that might be posted to your NSOC page and CEP’s YouTube channel.
CEP may also contact you to arrange for footage at your school or to arrange for interviews with staff members at the Forum.
