Ask any kindergartner in this sunny Michigan school what the Greenfield Way is, and the little one will quickly respond, “Respect, responsibility, and kindness.” Created collaboratively by teachers, parents, and students, the Greenfield Way has become the foundation for the way adults and children work and play together every day. Although Greenfield Elementary School is nestled in lovely, tree-lined Beverly Hills, an affluent suburb almost 15 miles from Detroit, it has a diverse population that represents 40 different cultural heritages. Wisely, the school has chosen to accent the individuality of each student in order to foster school unity, but it has also created a standard of accountability for all: the Greenfield Way.

Signature Practices
Lesson Plan: Biography Book Project: Wax Museum
Students will read a biography, then present the information learned in a “wax museum” format. The report will center around one character trait that influenced the subject’s life. Students will pretend to be the person they read about and give brief reports on the subjects’ lives. Students will be expected to dress up in character.
