School District of Jefferson
Jefferson, Wisconsin

Persuaded by the passion of an enterprising superintendent, a Wisconsin community has joined its students in character building. Based on the values of hard work and exemplary character, the Jefferson Way has become the moral compass that guides both the schools and the town. All five Jefferson schools—a high school, a middle school, and three elementary schools—have embraced character education enthusiastically, so a seamless, intentional process is now in place. Moreover, the town of Jefferson itself has become a convert. Business leaders greet the staff on opening day and join the students in a host of service and community projects; more than 150 businesses and organizations proudly display, model, and celebrate the district’s commitment to character.
