Allen Creek Elementary School
Rochester, New York
Pittsford Central School District

Allen Creek has been actively engaged in Character Education since the year 2000. Our initial efforts focused on the moral aspects of character; however, through work with the Institute for Excellence and Ethics, we have evolved to also recognize the importance of performance traits. We embrace the belief that character is developed through work at school; for that to occur, there must be an Ethical Learning Community where all members support and challenge one another. Our journey has included three character and climate assessments. Our initiative is coordinated by a building team that practices shared leadership and includes all stakeholder groups. We believe that the integration of character into all aspects of the school experience is critical to the success of the 21st century learner, and that it is needed to meet the many state and federal mandates that. Like Matt Davidson, we believe “Character is power.”

Testimonials

There are a lot of things I like about ACE, but what I like most is its kindness. . . . We all make mistakes, but learn to forgive and move on. I am so glad to go to a school as kind as ACE.
- Amanda, Fifth Grader

Schools provide the glue that makes our community such a special place to raise a family. . . . ACE students recognize they have a responsibility to care for their fellow students in a supportive school setting, and also to effect positive change in the community.
- Jared Lusk, Attorney and Pittsford Town Board Member
