Ellisville Elementary School
Ellisville, Missouri
Rockwood School District

Ellisville Elementary (EE) is a K-5 school located in suburban St. Louis. It is one of 19 elementary schools in the Rockwood School District and boasts a population of nearly 600 students. EE is not just a school; it’s a home away from home where smiles are simply a way of life. Students arrive eager to learn each day and leave anxious to return due to EE’s warm and inviting environment. First time visitors to EE consistently comment on the friendliness of the staff and students and the welcoming atmosphere.

At EE, we believe that character education (CE) is an integral part of the elementary learning experience. EE began CE in 1992, and a caring school community was born. In 2008, teachers expanded their efforts by focusing on creating stronger classroom communities through class meetings, The Student Council evolved into Character Congress which provided more students with leadership opportunities.

The administration continually encourages teachers to “think outside the box” and provides ongoing support, training and leadership for CE. The teachers’ focus has shifted from teaching academics to teaching students and supports our motto of “Making Connections; Building Relationships.” We truly believe that our students will become more caring individuals as a result of their Ellisville Elementary School experience.

Signature Practices

Promising Practice: Project Hero
Project Hero was a school-wide service learning project that focused on learning about, celebrating and supporting veterans in our school community and the active military that pass through the Missouri USO at St. Louis Lambert Airport.
Promising Practice: City Tour
Teachers and administrators ride the bus home with their transfer students from the city to experience the bus ride and meet the families of these students.

Testimonials

The greatest change at Ellisville is the emergence of powerful relationships. Through PLCs, teachers work together toward a common goal of student improvement, utilize each other's strengths, and support each other's weaknesses.
- Elizabeth Collom, 5th Grade Teacher

EE most importantly teaches me good character that I practice every day and with my buddy each month. Character is the ability to hold responsibilities such as being trusted or being in charge.
- Sruthi A., 5th Grader

At Ellisville Elementary my kids are gaining life skills that will help them mature into great adults.
- Shemain Kenney, PTO President Elect

Ellisville's Tiger Families have each adopted a retired Grandparent from the community. Grandparents write about experiences they had as kids, and the kids respond with things they are doing now, allowing all of us to connect and learn about the past and present. I think the kids are really enjoying the experience. I know I am.
- John Barnett, Rockwood Bus Driver, Oasis Tutor, Adopted Grandparent
