As a National School of Character, our goal is to teach all students to be people of strong character with high academic achievement so they become successful and productive citizens in our democratic society. We have integrated character education in our school since 2000. We implement character education systematically in order for it to become the foundation of our academic work. Providing equal opportunities for our diverse students is achieved within a caring environment that values quality teaching and enhances teachers’ knowledge. A comprehensive curriculum, a deliberate implementation and improvement plan, and collaboration among all stakeholders enables us to attain our school improvement goal “where all students are motivated to learn and perform to the best of their abilities.”
Since earning the NSOC recognition in 2008, our focus is shifting to cultivate leaders with strong character. Our school improvement effort is to improve achievement and performance of all students. We teach character along with academic content. Student competence is improved through differentiated curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Students not meeting proficiency on state assessments are targeted for intensive interventions with frequent monitoring. Our Response to Intervention teams discuss strategies and interventions needed for student concerns. Progress is assessed and monitored frequently, using specific strategies for implementation.
