Hagemann’s character journey has grown from the first days developing strong relationships among staff to facilitate student academic, social, and emotional growth; to a school community now encompassing staff, parents and community members focused directly on student growth through a character education lens. Our Character focus makes us better teachers, gives our students purpose to their learning, fosters our relationship with parents as teaching partners, and strengthens our bond with the surrounding community. Our goal is to have our students understand how character impacts their lives and others. By fostering a family atmosphere in our school both staff and families feel the school is an extension of their home. We assure our new families immediately feel welcomed. A family recently noted, “we would like to commend your staff for the wonderful job you all have done in welcoming us–my children came home talking up a storm about how welcomed they felt and loved their new school–being teachers ourselves we know this is not the norm and thank you for your standard of excellence.” Upon arriving to Hageman the character word of the month is present on the marquee. Entering the building our touchstone “Hawks Fly High With Respect” graces our commons area. Our Missouri School of Character and Promising Practice banners convey our commitment to character. Proceeding into the building our character lens continues to be supported as the way we view our world.
