North Pointe Elementary School

Clear Creek ISD

North Pointe Elementary’s character education journey began with the belief that all students can learn and add great value to the learning community in both academics and behavior. Careful consideration is given to daily positive social interactions and contributions of our school and community in terms of promoting and developing character education. Behaviorally, we feel compelled to introduce, maintain, and support good character choices especially in the area of decision making/conflict resolution to help support and enhance the academic learning opportunities. To better serve changes in student population and diversity, we designed a school wide character cadre that looked at what types of behavioral expectations(rules), what beliefs we hold true as a community of learners (mission), and how we go about teaching our students good character (implementation). We started to have intentional conversations with stakeholders on what they wanted for students as learners and as a school community (shared vision). We began to realize and comprehend the sense of urgency to provide a road map for better implementation of character education in addition to the district curriculum. Hopefully the result of our collaborative character education efforts at NPE will be a kind of synergy that has the ability to combat negative behaviors, inspire and encourage students, and build a strong, caring community that will ultimately impact humankind for generations to come.
