Churchill Junior High School
Salt Lake City, Utah

Student Service Board
For the past six years, Churchill Junior High has hosted a Student Service Board. The board members are selected by filing out an application form. Each student is assigned a month to be in charge of a school wide service project. Students are to: 1) Select their project, 2) Make arrangements with the organization being served, 3) Advertise to the school, and 4) Do the work to make sure their project is carried out and successful. Some of the projects students hosted for this year include: making 500 sandwiches to feed the homeless; collecting CDs and DVDs to send to the troops; collecting food for the Utah Food Bank; hosting a Sub for Santa program in December; and making rice packs for cancer victims. They also collected school items and filled more than 30 backpacks to send to an orphanage in Ethiopia. The entire school is invited to attend an after school activity each month. There are usually 50 to 200 students in attendance at these activities. Students who attend three or more activities are eligible to attend a “Super Activity” as a reward and thank you for their efforts.
