Kids Care Club
The East Hanover Middle School Kids Care Club is a student led community service organization that works to improve East Hanover Middle School and greater community through good works and committed student volunteerism. All Kids Care Club members are trained in leadership techniques and participate in various skill-building activities throughout the school year. The practice includes a variety of programs that run throughout the school year. Each program’s mission is to always do good works in the service of others. Within the East Hanover Middle School community, the Kids Care Club directs their efforts through many student-centered projects. The desirable character traits of responsibility, respect, courage, citizenship, honesty, and (of course) caring are at the heart of all of our students’ volunteer experiences. Student leadership and peer mediation programs are run throughout the school year to minimize the occurrences of peer discord and bullying behaviors. Character education, peer tutoring, school beautification, inter-school outreach programs (working with the elementary school students), charitable fund raising and social harmony programs are also run concurrently throughout the school year in a dedicated effort to continually raise the social consciousness of the EHMS student community as well as the faculty/staff. Follow-up dialogues and brainstorming sessions routinely allow for critical reflection and discussion focused on improving our practice. The positive impact of the Kids Care Club is not simply localized within the school wither,  in the greater community the Kids Care Club sends monthly representatives to local Soup Kitchens and Community Schools to provide goods and services to those in need. Through outreach programs such as these, student representatives gain valuable insight into the struggles of their fellow community members and the children continue to develop a keen sense of social responsibility.
