CHIL (Character Helps Influence Learning)
Floresville Middle School fosters student success through CHIL (Character Helps Influence Learning), a character-based behavior intervention program. It is designed to help students struggling to demonstrate core ethical values. The goal of the program is to maximize classroom instructional time by assisting students in acquiring a sense of responsibility, following the student code of conduct, and creating a community of mutual respect and care. CHIL is a fifteen day after-school program of character based activities created through collaborative efforts of teachers, counselors, administrators and students. Lessons focus on improving student decision making skills and are based on the core ethical values: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. CHIL helps students incorporate core values into their everyday actions.  Lessons engage students in class discussion, journaling, character dilemma role play and reflection. Teachers and students develop examples of how to incorporate these values in daily activities. Students participate in community service such as campus beautification and assisting teachers with classroom preparation. Through modeling and teaching the core values of character education and involving all stakeholders in the CHIL program, Floresville Middle School is committed to helping students succeed in demonstrating good character.
