Paws of Supplies
Every other Wednesday, Kingston's three fourth grade classes embark on an entrepreneurial adventure as they run a charitable community business together. They become immersed in a real-life business by gaining a deeper understanding of the value of money through basic economic concepts such as supply, demand, inventory, and scarcity. This joint business venture is not only something that the children will remember from their elementary experience, but one where their collaborative efforts are able to make a real difference to others in their community. We ask our fourth graders to research this endeavor, and to develop a business plan. They are responsible to come up with a business name, logo, and merchandising tactics. At the end of our last school year our store owners voted on four local charities that they wanted to support with their hard earned and substantial proceeds. The business partners also decided to give a gift to the school.
