Putting Character and Education into the Community
“Putting Character and Education in the Community” is the motto of Nike Elementary. Engaging community members and local businesses in our Character Education Initiative (CEI) is an important goal, essential for the present and future success of Nike's students. The school's objective is to involve the community with their students and to promote Nike's students in the community as productive citizens. A student organization, Kids of Character (KOC), develops a plan for recruiting local businesses. The group presents the message of Nike’s CEI at a local Chamber of Commerce meeting and invites members to participate. They also write letters to all local business owners inviting them to be a Community Character Sponsor for the year. As a sponsor, businesses are given copies of our Look Fors to post in their establishment. Sponsors attend Nike’s monthly Character Rallies and speak to our student body about what character looks like, sounds like, and feels like in their businesses. Nike’s Character Education Community Sponsors are an essential link that helps to promote our mission. Families and business leaders have proven to be committed partners in the learning process for Nike Elementary.
