Turn the Lights Out on Cancer
This year the Northwest Lady Lions Basketball team decided to give back. They looked for a way to bring our community together for a great cause. The basketball team designed and sold t-shirts in the hopes of raising money for Breast Cancer Research. They tried to involve the entire Northwest R-1 School District by including them in the process. The team made a few variations of their t-shirts with Black being the predominate color in each. Their goal was to “Turn the Lights Out on Cancer” by having the people in our community wear the black shirts to a special Blackout Game during the season. It was their largest crowd of the year as the community came out to support the cause and see the team present a check for $1000.00 to the Susan G. Komen Organization. The girls learned a lot from this experience. They met survivors, received letters and notes from them and really felt good about this project and giving back. Their coach was proud of the team and the community for all of their hard work in making the Blackout game possible and hopefully some day helping to turn the lights out on cancer!
