Color Our Character
Color Our Character is an engaging activity coloring book designed by Sullivan Primary “Mini Picasso” students.  “Mini Picasso’s” is program provided to teach students about character in artist.  Mini Picasso’s consist of our kindergarten and first grade students. The students selected areas throughout the school that they felt were important to share with new enrolling students. Students had voice in making decisions of what to include in the coloring book.  Students were shown how to use the Digital camera and the Kodak Easy Share software to turn photo images into coloring pages. Therefore, students were part of the creation process of the coloring book. This practice is very effective in providing students opportunities to engage in the character initiative in welcoming new students to the Sullivan Primary School by writing a welcoming letter, familiarizing new students to our school by showing them around the school. As a result of this practice, students have been actively involved in creating and assisting in welcoming new students to our school.  New students are greeted and shown around the school using their coloring books as a tool to learn about the school.  Coloring books go home with the student and family during enrollment to collaboratively color together and reflect on their new school journey.  The coloring book has a reflection page where the student can draw and color a picture of being part of the school family.
