Character Cruise
During the Character Cruise, classes “cruise” the cafeteria, playground, bathroom/hallway, bus, car-pick up, and the nurse’s office to learn about the school-wide expectations in each area. The school-wide expectations are to be safe, cooperative, kind, respectful and responsible in each of these areas. Music you would hear while on a cruise plays during transition times. At each destination the students see a visual depicting each expectation, which remains hanging all year as a visual reminder, and also see a role-play of what is expected when they are in that particular area. The station is run by the staff member they see most in that area. Classroom teachers give input and help out as needed. The students are given the opportunity to practice what is shown, and upon leaving the station they get a stamp in their Character Cruise Passport showing they have learned about good character in that area of the building. The Character Cruise takes place two times per year. The first cruise takes place at the beginning of the year to introduce the expectations, and the second in January upon returning from Winter Break to reintroduce the expectations.
