Character on Display
The Beverly Elementary's character education committee wanted to make sure that the students understood that good character is not just for “kids” and not something that ends when they leave the school building. The school is working hard to make sure that students take pride in their “Beverly Bobcat Behavior," which encourages them to develop good character traits that will serve the community and beyond. To help the students develop this understanding, the character education committee conceived the idea of creating a display that would share how grown-ups use good character. Parents and staff were invited to write about how they or their family have shown good character. The wall quickly expanded, including the photos of some families doing community service, helping in the school, visiting with new families etc. The wall was a popular stop on the way to the media center and children began to urge their parents to add their families’ acts of good character to the ever-changing display.
