Rolls with Role Models
Every year in the Mehlville School District, the Safe and Drug-Free Community Advisory Committee offers a voluntary essay contest for students who wish to write about someone who has impacted their life and is a role model of kindness. Blades Elementary School took this concept a step further and made it into a school-wide month long project. Students create art work which depicts positive personal traits and individuals who possess these qualities. Along with the creation of art work, students compose grade-level writing assignments. Students write about specific people in their immediate lives whom they view as role models of kindness. In March students are given the opportunity to invite their role models to Blades for breakfast as part of our “Rolls with Role Models” celebration. At this celebration students share their projects with their role models and give them the much-deserved “Thank you” for making a difference through kindness.
