The Character Wall
The Character Wall at Branson High School is a place of innovation and creativity. Students, who are standing firm on the understanding of positive character traits laid down in their early years, are invited to create character. Each month, the Character Wall, an eight by twelve foot display case, is prepared for the submissions of the high school population. All students are encouraged to create artwork in many and varied forms that represent the month’s trait. These expressions of character challenge participants to think beyond rote definitions, and to consider the traits from a visual or artistic light such as poetry, painting, drawing, or photography. This concept allows students to teach and learn from each other. Students have the opportunity to make the traits on their own: they can create an expression of the month’s trait and teach others about it. Those who observe these creations are learning from peers instead of simply from teachers. Essentially the traits of good character become more tangible, cool, and accessible to the students of Branson High School. This in turn will hopefully encourage them to create an environment of good character in the school and community.
