Biscuits for Bobcat Dads
Biscuits for Bobcat Dads is a program designed to promote relationship building between kids and their dads (or other significant male role model) through fun mathematic activities. The Cross Bayou Elementary staff provides a free breakfast for the kids and their dads to enjoy while participating in activities that support student learning. The program is a way to increase family involvement, and to provide tangible ways for Dads to help support their child’s learning. The fun activities include games that use a deck of cards or dice, which can be found in most homes. Each family takes home a game pack which includes all the materials needed to play the games they learned and the instructions. 25-30 staff members volunteer to assist with this program by serving breakfast, greeting families, providing traffic control and facilitating the mathematic game instruction. 250 families participated in the Fall Biscuits for Bobcat Dads program and this number continues to increase! This program idea has been an overwhelming success at Cross Bayou. The program's activities can be replicated at home and continue to foster the relationship between dads and their kids.
