Principal's Breakfast
The Principal's Breakfast is a monthly breakfast hosted by the principal and open to the community to attend. Parents are invited to hear about what is happening at Derby and in the district, participate in school and district evaluations and share their experiences, concerns, and other information. Topics are advertised through the principal’s e-news and the PTSA. Guest speakers are invited (e.g., high school representatives, board members, community services, etc.), building and district information is shared and students present from the senate and their classes. This practice was instituted to be sure to give parents a voice in the school, allowing them to share their concerns, opinions and keep “in the loop” of what is happening in the building. This is one of the ways in which parents are given information about upcoming Character Education activities! Students often are asked to participate. The pride that students have when they are able to share information about Derby with the parent community is evident in their faces when they present in this forum.
