Welcome New Dragons!
Welcome New Dragons is a unique, caring, and warm approach to student registration. New students receive a colorful folder that greets them with a big Duncan Dragon “Welcome”. The folder includes a personal message and token from the school principal (pencil grip), librarian (bookmark), nurse (“I feel better” sticker), school counselors (sticker sheet), and a Student Online Achievement Resources mousepad. A letter of greeting from the principal accompanies a list of “Who’s Who” at Duncan Elementary, a bell schedule, school map, and scribble sheet to jot down names of new friends. Parent information includes arrival/dismissal procedure diagram/description, school contact information (web page address, physical address, phone number, and fax number), Military Family Life Consultant contact information, SOAR information, differentiated instruction information, Communities in Schools brochure/ registration packet, and a list of local area and Army resources. New students are escorted to the cafeteria and class and assigned a buddy. Buddies help new students become acquainted with the new classroom, teacher, classmates, expectations and campus. Pictures of New Duncan Dragons are posted on a bright bulletin board. This welcome program eases the difficulty of transitions for students and parents.
