Earth Quilt
This year-long community project included participation of the entire student body, local community, a neighboring high school and the volunteers. Environmental projects completed by the student body were recorded through photographs and printed onto computer fabric. These quilt squares were sewn together by Rockledge High School’s home economic students. They also appliquéd phrases in between each month’s photos. On Earth Day everyone walked the “green way walk” through paint to make a visual reproduction of reducing the carbon footprints. Every student pledged to care for the earth by signing their name by their fingerprints on classroom quilt squares. These quilt squares became the back of the quilt, also sewn by the high school friends. The quilt was bound and quilted by a community volunteer. This project used LIFESKILLS such as Cooperation, Friendship, Effort, Patience and Perseverance.
