Winning Team Bronco
Winning Team Bronco is a program targeting high risk students at Burney Elementary. Experiencing little to no success in school, these students have demonstrated poor discipline, limited academic achievement, and disinterest in school over time. Specifically, this program provides every student with a school-based mentor, specific job responsibilities at Burney, and daily opportunities to earn points in a variety of ways. Those students who earn their point goals will participate in a highly motivating month-end activity designed to provide them with unique experiences. These are our most at-risk children. Many of their families have been impoverished for generations and illiteracy is common. Some family members have themselves dropped out of school early on so these targeted students may have few models of school success. The school is attempting to interrupt this cycle so that these students can experience success and be equipped to function as productive citizens. Their academic achievement, and inviting school environment will bring them back to school. Winning Team Bronco has been attempting to provide children a pathway out of poverty; it is the program that offers hope and success for now and for the future.
