"Partners to Potential"
“Partners to Potential” program is a community support program sponsored by Long Island Youth Guidance (Not-for Profit, Faith-Based Corporation) and adopted by Fifth Avenue School. The program is open to children without regard to religion, race, or any other restrictions. As an afterschool Wednesday program, it is designed to help close the academic gap of children who are struggling in school. In addition to improving a child’s reading level, the program helps improve a child’s self-esteem. Every Wednesday, adult volunteers work one-on-one with children to help them read and comprehend a story, practice spelling, and/or complete a homework assignment. At the start of the regular day, the children feel good about themselves because they know that they are prepared for the school day. Fifth Avenue School and members of the “Partners to Potential” program agree that children benefit most when caring and dedicated adults from the community support their learning. As a result of the “Partners to Potential” program, children develop an understanding of their potential and greater belief in their own self-worth.
