Bully and Cyberbullying Elementary Prevention Program
Fox Middle School's Character Council students visit one of the feeder elementary schools to teach all students K-6 lessons on bullying and cyber-bullying. This practice was initiated by students after attending the CHARACTERplus cyber-summit two years ago. Character Council students created and performed skits for the sixth graders on internet safety and cyberbullying. Students thought that they could make a bigger impact by working with younger students before they came to the middle school. Fox Middle School students select age-appropriate lessons to teach to each grade levelfrom resources such as Netzsmart.org. Kindergarten through sixth-grade students at Fox Elementary have two middle school role models who engage them in a bully prevention or cyberbully prevention lesson on each ½ day of school. Both elementary students and middle students are asked to reflect on each lesson. The middle school students have learned how to be leaders, role models, public speakers, and active listeners. The elementary students have learned how to be a good friend, be respectful of one another, to maintain self-control, and strategies for dealing with bullies.
