Fuguitt Elementary Character Coaches
Fuguitt’s Reading Coach, Media Specialist, and Assistant Principal research and select memorable, captivating children’s books annually that clearly herald the character focus traits established for each month of the school year. These lively tales are formulated into scripted lessons, rehearsed by the 80 Character Coaches, and then delivered by them to the hungry, eager ears of Fuguitt’s own tiny jewels. Scripted to build trust, reveal transparency, and promote participation, Character Coaches share their real life experiences of self-control, courage, honesty and beyond, and then provide opportunities for their learners to do the same. This purposeful exchange (better known as ‘accountable talk’) bears the format of the architecture of the mini lesson, with the Reading Units of Study as its foundation. The lesson deepens, as the carefully selected treasure is read to the children, allowing the gems on each page to sparkle in their hearing like sunlight on a prism. Each lesson is christened with the challenge to “Honor the Fuguitt Way”, by putting the character trait into practice at least five times prior to leaving the school building for the day, and then to make it a part of one’s life each and every day.
