"Truman Talks" TV Show
Lights, camera, action come alive when third graders assume the roles of hosts, interviewers, writers, researchers, artists, actors/actresses, and members of the music and sound crews with the production of a monthly news show that is broadcast on classroom TV monitors school-wide. Under the direction of the art and third grade teachers, every third grader has an opportunity to participate in a TV production that also includes demonstrations, jungles, interviews, commercials, and highlights of upcoming and past school events. In addition, the show features the character trait and community service project for the month. One segment of the "Truman Talks" TV show highlighted a January activity where kindness was contagious at Truman School when students, staff and parents participated in the Kindness and Tolerance Challenge. During a two week period, teachers recorded random acts of kindness performed by students in school, and parents recorded at home. The project generated a lot of excitement and support with the students engaged in a total of 3,022 acts of kindness.
