Morning Assembly
At Imagine Indiana Life Sciences Academy East every morning the students gather in the auditorium before the school day begins. They use this time to talk to friends and staff. At 8 a.m. sharp, the school starts the day with the Assistant Principal, Dean of Students or other staff members addressing the students. Then during the first five minutes, the school community discusses and examines the three Shared Values: Integrity, Justice and Fun. Some days, those minutes are spent on a student-led performance, reading, or examples of students exhibiting these traits, given by a staff member. Students also read poems and discuss stories from the news that are inspiring. The staff made up two mock game shows called, “Is it Justice?” and “What is Integrity?” where students are called up, given scenarios and asked to tell the audience if justice was given or what would they do in the situation to show integrity. The Pledge of Allegiance and Character Counts Pledge are recited and classes are dismissed to their classrooms. The benefit of the whole school being together in one area each morning has been a great way to start a day for students and staff.
