Academic Coaching
Connecting the dots between academic performance, work-ethic, and character is something that Imagine MASTer Academy strives to do. The school recognizes that middle-school ages are formative years, and it is essential for students to understand the interconnectedness of the above attributes and how that will impact their future endeavors. So the school has instituted an Academic Coaching period. Early in the school year, coaches and students set goals for the school year. As the year progresses, coaches and students collaborate regularly to discuss the student’s progress towards his or her goals and current academic performance. It is in these meetings that the students and coaches discuss the importance of work-ethic, responsibility, and accountability. The goal is to have all students be knowledgeable of their current grades and performance, and able to articulate their plan of improvement. Students are stopped regularly by adults in the building to have a conversation with the student regarding current performance and plan. For the students, they have realized the positive implications of holding themselves accountable for their own academic success. Being able to hold one’s self accountable and develop a plan for improvement will pay big dividends as these students grow and mature!
