Taking the LEAD
Iola High School recognizes a need for freshmen students to engage in learning, participate in school activities, have a feeling of belonging in the school and to understand how high school can help them be successful in life. With a three-year plan, Iola High School has established the following goals.
• Create a transition program for freshmen which will keep students actively engaged throughout the school year.
• Through the use of a Freshman Academy, Iola High School will
o Use School-Connect Character Education curriculum to educate freshmen students on responsibility, managing time, self-awareness, and self-management to decrease discipline referrals
o help freshmen maintain high achievement throughout the year
o lower freshmen absences from school
• Create a leadership program with junior and senior students
• Organize service projects with the local “Vision Iola” community
• Utilize the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education Sourcebook to engage the entire student body, faculty and community.
