Taking the LEAD
Iola High School recognizes a need for freshmen students to engage in learning, participate in school activities, have a feeling of belonging in the school and to understand how high school can help them be successful in life. With a three-year plan, Iola High School has established the following goals. • Create a transition program for freshmen which will keep students actively engaged throughout the school year. • Through the use of a Freshman Academy, Iola High School will       o Use School-Connect Character Education curriculum to educate freshmen students on responsibility, managing time, self-awareness, and self-management to decrease discipline referrals       o help freshmen maintain high achievement throughout the year       o lower freshmen absences from school • Create a leadership program with junior and senior students • Organize service projects with the local “Vision Iola” community • Utilize the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education Sourcebook to engage the entire student body, faculty and community.
