Almost Anything Goes
“Almost Anything Goes” is a yearly community event that involves the local emergency squad and fire department on an annual alternating basis, school faculty members, parents, high school alumnae and current students. Lopatcong Township Middle School's Student Council organizes this annual community wide event. All middle school students are eligible to participate and are randomly assigned to teams. The goals of this annual event are to raise funds for local service organizations, while at the same time, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. All participants compete in atypical competitive events. Points are awarded for first, second and third place teams in each event. At the conclusion of the evening, team totals are tallied and announced; however, all participants are considered winners based on their enthusiastic participation throughout the evening. The final announcement sharing the dollar amount raised to assist the local emergency squad or fire department is eagerly anticipated by the participants and spectators. Proceeds are donated to either organization; however, in 2009, monies raised were donated to support the Tom Maxcy Foundation which supports a former Lopatcong Township Middle School student currently suffering from cancer, and his family to assist with medical expenses.
