Town Meetings
Town Meetings are a time when the students from each grade level meet as a group along with the administration, teachers and school counselor. The purpose of the meetings is for the students to have an opportunity to learn about good character choices, work together as teams and form caring bonds between themselves and some of the adults in the school. For each Town Meeting, a topic is chosen and activities are planned to help the students grow as a school community. During these meetings, some of the topics of discussion were: School-wide expectations, learning about the 3 R’s (respect, responsibility, and the right to learn), and facts about the person after which the school was named. Some of the activities at the initial Town Meetings included: Naming the school mascot, team building challenges, and designing a school stamp. When the students return to their classroomsm, teachers expand on the topics and activities. The Town Meetings allow for the teachers to use a common experience and common language when teaching good character to their students.
