The Northwest Way
The Northwest R-I School District employees have a unique philanthropic endeavor called The Northwest Way. This program began in 2009 and adopts the philosophy of supporting organizations that help friends and neighbors within the community. The Northwest Way is a monthly voluntary employee contribution program through payroll deductions. Each school selects its charity, and once a month a different charity is awarded the payroll deduction amount. Then through classroom meetings and discussions, the topic of giving back, helping others, etc. is explored with students to enhance their understanding and develop their sense of positive character education/actionable core values. This program has created a circular endeavor with district employees giving to local charities, local charities giving to local families, students and families giving back to the community, and students learning and appreciating the act of kindness to carry forward into the community and beyond.
