
Lunch Bunch
Teachers develop positive relationships with students by spending their lunch time with the students, sharing experiences and finding common points of interest. Teachers listen to the kids and work on relationship building. It is part of the hidden curriculum that focuses on character and academic building through creating relationships and bonds between teachers and students and student to student. Those lunch moments together have had a very positive effect on classroom behaviors and effort levels put out by students. There have been more classroom participation, and fewer disruptions and missing assignments. More student are asking to come for Lunch Bunch, and there is even a waiting list. Everyone will be given a chance to participate. The simple act of spending time with students and sharing jokes, stories, types of music, talking about books, etc. has led to relationship bridges being built, and created caring classroom climates, while also making students feel good about themselves and their school.
