Character and Leadership Workshop
All 6th grade students of Orono Middle School engage in a full day character and leadership workshop focused on the Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Students rotate through 30 minute sessions in all of the Pillars that are led by a 6th grade teacher and two of the high school Character Counts! students. Throughout the day students gain a solid understanding of the pillars of character and engage in activities to illustrate the application of those pillars in everyday life. At the end of the day, students attend a presentation on ethical decision making. They apply their knowledge from the day in their analysis of ethical decision that relate to middle school students. The school believes that the development of the Pillars' character will help students to
reach their full potential, both academically as well as personally.
