Pembroke Pride
Pembroke Pride is a comprehensive approach to providing character education for Pembroke students, allowing for new skill development and integrating character education into school, home and community life. Classroom binders with educational materials for each character trait were distributed to teachers and staff to help them integrate character education into their daily activities. An enthusiastic kick-off assembly introduced students to the Pembroke Pride recognition program in which they can nominate classmates for showing "Pembroke Pride". Pembroke staff and parents can also nominate students. "Pride Rock" was created in the main lobby of the school to display copies of nominations for all to see. Monthly “Pembroke Pride” assemblies focus on a particular trait and “thought leaders” are brought in from the community to speak to students. Each assembly ends with the song, “We are Family”, usually with staff and students dancing out of the gym.
