Character Education "Field Day"
At Ridgewood Avenue School, the character education committee reflected that the school does much throughout the school year to encourage character education, but it never “closes” this year-long “unit.” The committee spent months planning Character Education “Field Day” which would include a variety of activities at each grade level focused around the school's six pillars of character. The students spent an entire day moving through classrooms, the school building and outside completing meaningful tasks aligned to the character education focus. The entire staff was involved in the planning and implementation. This activity reinforced for the school community the importance we place on character education and helped “wrap-up” the lessons with the students! This innovative idea will become an annual tradition in the school, and the committee belives that it can serve as a promising practice inspiring other schools to implement a similar culminating day!
