Bus Driver's Breakfast
At Robert R. Lazar Middle School, each year the Home Arts Classes prepare a gourmet breakfast for the 30-35 bus drivers and sub drivers who transport students to and from school everyday. The preparations take several days which not only inlcude the foods, but also the table set up, decorations, table settings, serving manners, clean up, conversation, etc. Prior to the breakfast, the administration meets with all drivers and bus company owners to review the handbook rules, student expectations while riding the bus, the support they receive by administration, and the expectations the school has for students to respect and appreciate their drivers. After the gourmet meal, the students present a short video of stories, letters and skits about their drivers. The presentations are personal and heartwarming; students share their reflections on the importance of these individual bus drivers in their daily routines. In fact, several drivers are in tears when they hear the positive impact they have on children! It is a morning of appreciation, positive praise, and a show of respect for ALL members of the "Lazar School Family."
