Parent Orientation DVD Project
At Rockwood Early Childhood Education, a department-wide initiative was implemented to replace parent orientation night with parent orientation DVD. The project aims to have a deeper impact on ALL of the students and teachers in the department, and the initiative requires parents and fellow teachers to work together for creating an orientation DVD in lieu of parent orientation night. During the meetings, teachers work on draft scripts that included child-directed speech and many visuals to help visual and auditory learners retain the knowledge. By pre-teaching the expectations, a strategy used extensively in the preschool years, the department believes that the children would experience less stress when starting school, allowing more time for academic instruction. In various emails and face to face conversations, parents revealed their love for the convenience of the orientation DVD.
