Principal’s Shadowing Program
Invitations are sent to parents of a specific grade level to participate in Principal’s Shadowing. Parents arrive on the shadowing day and meet with the principal for an introduction and overview of their visit. The introduction includes an in-depth background of the principal’s professional experience and an explanation of the value of principal walk-throughs. The group then “shadows” the principal through all of the classes at their child’s grade level. During the walk-through the components of the academic day are explained and classroom strategies are pointed out by the principal. After each class is visited, the principal takes a moment to summarize what was observed and answers any questions parents may have before moving onto the next classroom. Upon the completion of the walk-throughs the group reconvenes and the principal shares the current units of study in all curriculum areas. Utilizing SMART technology the principal shares a grade level science lesson and a school-developed online character lesson. The parents leave with a book to share with their child, a math game and a list of websites to use at home. Each group completes a survey which helps to continuously improve the program.
