Heart to Heart
The Heart to Heart event of Saint Louis Charter School encourages communication between students, parents, and staff about the practice of character education at school and its incorporation into daily life. During this event, students share what they have learned about character education and provide examples of how they exemplify core ethical values on a daily basis. Small groups converse at tables. Parents and staff guide the discussion based upon character scenarios or topics provided on task cards. The scenarios range from bullying to respect for all people to responsibility to class assignments. After the allotted amount of time, task cards are switched. Each table discusses all six topics. At the end of the event, parents can ask questions. Parents also complete a survey that assesses the implementation and quality of the event as well as more general character education questions.
